ABOUT
The Circular Stools project was inspired by not having enough money to spend on furniture that I didn't really like. The world is full of far too many possibilities to settle on somebody elses idea of what my home should look like.
I had the metal brackets laser cut from 1.5mm sheet metal and bent; the wood for the seat laser cut from reclaimed 16mm MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard); the laminated ply and fasteners were bought from the local hardware store and with a little bit of elbow grease and some spray paint, I had a set of 4 stools that I was happy to call my own.
One of the major design considerations is that I live in a small studio apartment with no garage. All the components would have to be manufactured in a way that would allow me to assemble the stools effortlessly at home. In a commercial capacity, not only is flat-pack design a crucial consideration when freight is involved, but we are also coming into an age where consumers enjoy assembling product ourselves. It gives us a greater sense of pride knowing what we have achieved.
