Deanne Burkimsher Product Designer

ABOUT

The idea for the Africa Facet Light was conceived when the "coffee shop" was being developed at the previous company that I worked for, and all the designers were asked to bring an item in that inspired them. It would have to be something that would contribute to creating an environment that we all want to be in. I didn't have anything at home, so I designed a light that could be produced in our factory using off-cut material and put onto a powder coating line that was already in progress.

I sketched up the concept, modelled it in Creo, sent the .dxfs to the laser cutter and the bend drawings to the bending technician. I arranged for it to be powder coated and for the electronics to be delivered. After the first prototype was made I got an order of 32 lights just from the employees of the company that I worked for. Our factory fascillitated the production of this small run. I later ran another small production on my own accord where I managed the entire process from design to delivery
