THE LONDON DUNGEON GUIDE BOOK
This project was a real highlight for me. I was working for BMC Banner (now The Purple Agency). We had worked with Merlin previously creating digital screens for their Theme Parks but we hadn’t worked with the London Dungeons before. We were invited to pitch for their LD guide book redesign.
I put together 3 different options - an old style newspaper (their original idea), a diary entry of various known people from the past and a fun educational activity book.
They loved all 3 ideas and even though originally they thought they’d go with the newspaper they ended up choosing a mixture of the diary of events and the activity book. However they still really liked the newspaper idea and handed it out as a freebie at their Jack The Ripper summer campaign, it worked really well as a marketing tool as the paper was left around on the tube, restaurants etc...
The guide was around 36 pages and featured Jack the Ripper, The Great Plague of London, Victorian cocktails, Guy Fawkes, The Great Fire of London and odd quirky facts about London. For the first draft and pitch I had to write and source all of the information myself and from then on alongside our copyrighter. I had to do a massive amount of research for this and found some really fascinating information along the way.
The guide was really great to work on and it has been one of my most successful projects to be involved in. The Purple agency have gained loads of new business off the back of the guide book for The London Dungeon and I was asked to create all of the other guide books for The Dungeons other sites including Amsterdam, Berlin, York, Edinburgh and Blackpool. Before I left the company there was talk of doing the guide book for Madame Tussauds too.
