By its definition, a citizen is a legally recognized subject of a state, either native or naturalized. In the social aspect of this word, being a citizen means agreeing to share rights and responsibilities of the community. In order to become an Italian, one has to live 10 years in the country.

Italia agli italiani is a motto used by the nationalists to argue the existence of an Italian race or ethnicity.
In order to contrast the literal and the connotative meanings of this sentence I photographed people with foreign origins that either already did or are about to acquire an Italian citizenship.
