About me
My name is David Riare. I am more than willing to help young people and make the difference in their lives through music.
After having basic knowledge and skills on music theory and guitar I decided to take up music education seriously and started out by teaching guitar privately. Later that year (2012), we teamed up with a couple of musician friends and we started a music program (MARANATHA MUSIC HAUS) Helping young people and also the unfortunate at burns creek/ lunga community basically to help learners understand what music is and acquire basic skills in playing guitar and basic music theory.
We were lucky enough to attend a one week intensive training in Australia, Sydney, Avondale college in 2013 and visited their Music School.
Arriving back in Honiara I discovered Berklee college of Music online and request courses from them some of which offered free via COUSERA so I download and study here.
I searched the internet further and discovered the benefits it has to children and students in general.
It was clear from the beginning that there were so many young people out there who were really interested and had the passion in music. Unfortunately, most Schools in Honiara don't provide Music education.
Due to work commitment from my friends I was left alone to run the classes and also managed it. This was a great challenge for me and found out it was better to stop first which I did while planning further, enlisting some supports and took the slower pace.
Then I was called to help out with the prisoners (JUVNILES) teaching Guitar as part of their rehabilitation program and also in the Honiara City council youth learning Hub.
And the struggle was real having to quit school (2008) and continue as full time musician up until today (2017) working with different types of pupil who really interested and want to go further in different parts in the field of music ( performers, producers , arrangers , composers , etc.)
So what I want to create now is an avenue or a music learning hub for young people from communities and even schools to come and join classes ,sharing ideas together and also playing together with the Guitar Ensembles and bands in the class promoting unity. Young people here will have some very important qualities gained through music instruction that will help them to be good citizens and also prepare them for their future goals not only in music but other fields.
