About me

David Jones has worked in the VFX industry for 25 years and has worked on hundreds of movies, but he's probably best known for his stunning and innovative work on "Black Hawk Down"

David started his career as a shader writer: a technical position that relies heavily on how color and light reacts to surfaces - and this science is at the core of the modern Visual Effects that we see today. It's this strong technical background, attention to detail, and unbridled imagination that propelled David to the level of a VFX supervisor, and Director.

David has extensive experience both on and off the set. He has collaborated with filmmakers to achieve unique and stunning visual effects across a wide variety of films. from huge block-buster movies such as "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Die Hard" to more fanciful ventures like, "The Phantom of The Opera"

Following an full career in VFX David Joined "Dreamworks" as a consultant to help organize the new animated tv show "How To Train Your Dragon". David was instrumental in setting up the pipeline which enabled a smooth, efficient and under budget show. David also worked closely with the directors to establish the look of the characters and the environments, and went on to direct episodes of the show including the 'Dragons Season Finale". David has been nominated for several "Annies" and "Emmys" over the course of his directing career. Winning an Annie in 2019 for his work on Troll Hunters.

Then David added a similar role on "TrollHunters", over-seeing the initial show Pipeline, and helping to establish the look of the show. Working with Guillermo Del Toro, David crafted the distinctive look that defined the successful show, and garnered numerous award nominations and wins and this year he's been nominated for another Emmy and a VES award in 2018. David was the completely in charge of the color and lighting for every shot on both "TrollHunters" and "Dragons: Race to the Edge", noting and finalling over 45,000 shots in his tenure on the shows.
