The Doctor Who guide was a refresh of the brand, following the "regeneration" of the TV series central character (and with a new actor playing the Doctor). The brand was a global success story and so any complete reinvention had to work commercially. Throughout the process I kept that at the front of my mind when reviewing the creative work. As a key member of the team at BBC Worldwide, I was also responsible for sourcing artwork from BBC Wales production teams, everything relevant to making the TV series that could be translated into a product design.
The I Can Cook guide was a thorough overhaul of the brand, to help licensees create product based on the show's values. The previous version of the guide was focused on the look and feel of the series' set designs, and did not offer any character art. I briefed the team at Skew that we needed a version of the series presenter, so we worked together developing an illustration style that would allow us to do this and fit with the rest of the product guide.
