ABOUT

Project Overview
3 Teeth Rex was conceived as a coffeehouse extension of an existing NFT brand, designed to translate a digital universe into a physical hospitality experience tailored to young adults passionate about technology, anime culture, and immersive community spaces.

This project showcases two distinct design directions developed in response to the same client brief. The first explores a direct extension of the brand’s existing NFT identity, while the second presents a refined evolution shaped by client feedback, introducing broader coffeehouse and lifestyle cues. Together, both concepts demonstrate different strategic approaches to solving the same branding challenge.

Option I - Brand Continuity Through Existing Visual Equity

Challenges
The initial challenge was to preserve the existing identity of the NFT ecosystem while expanding it into a completely different environment, a physical coffeehouse experience. The brand already possessed recognizable visual equity through its characters and digital presence, making it important to extend rather than reinvent the identity.

Another strategic consideration was avoiding overly literal coffee branding. The intention was to create a lifestyle-driven identity that could spark curiosity and function similarly to iconic consumer brands whose symbols communicate more through familiarity and emotional connection than direct product depiction.

Design Approach
The first direction focused entirely on extending the original NFT ecosystem into hospitality by leveraging recognizable visual assets already associated with the brand. The Rex illustration became the anchor of the identity, paired with X-inspired structural forms to create a distinctive and ownable mark.

Rather than relying on explicit coffee symbolism, the concept embraced a curiosity-first strategy, allowing the audience to engage with the identity, interpret the symbolism, and discover the brand story over time. This approach aligned with the client’s ambition to create something larger than a conventional coffeehouse identity.

The visual system was designed to feel bold, youthful, and highly adaptable across cups, merchandise, packaging, and digital brand applications.

Design Process
Step I - NFT Brand Exploration
Studied the client’s existing NFT universe, character language, and supporting assets to identify recognizable visual equity worth preserving.

Step II - Concept Development
Explored symbolic compositions centered around the Rex illustration and X-inspired visual forms.

Step III - Identity Structuring
Built scalable logo systems intended to function across physical and digital hospitality touchpoints.

Step IV - Brand Application Testing
Applied the concept across mockups, including cups, bags, merchandise, and packaging, to evaluate adaptability.

Step V - Final Presentation
Delivered the first design exploration as a strategic extension of the NFT brand into hospitality.

Option II - Strategic Refinement Through Client Feedback

Challenges
Following the first presentation, feedback revealed an opportunity to create a concept that felt more immediately relatable while maintaining continuity with the original brand universe. The challenge became balancing familiarity with clearer audience cues around hospitality, comfort, and discovery.

The client also requested a more structured visual system, improved typographic readability, and a stronger, ownable colour presence that could feel as recognizable as major consumer brands.

Design Approach
The second direction retained the recognizable Rex illustration to preserve brand continuity while introducing new thematic layers inspired directly by the project brief.

Subject matter such as Coffeehouse, Discovery, Imagination, Technology, and Connectivity informed the evolution of the concept. The identity was reconstructed within a bounding capsule shape, creating a more intentional and uniform system for use across collateral.

To introduce stronger contextual familiarity, a house integrated within a coffee bean became a symbolic bridge between hospitality and product. Signal-inspired lines surrounding the mark subtly referenced WiFi and digital connectivity, aligning the identity with the client’s technology-oriented audience.

Typography was simplified for improved readability, while the colour palette evolved into a bolder and more distinctive system designed for stronger recognition and memorability.

Supporting layouts, including a semi-badge variation, expanded the flexibility of the brand for storytelling, merchandise, and environmental applications.

Design Process
Step I - Feedback Review & Strategic Reassessment
Following the first presentation, client feedback highlighted the need for stronger relatability, improved readability, and a more commercially recognizable coffeehouse identity. This prompted a strategic reassessment of the original direction.

Step II - Subject Matter Expansion
To evolve the concept while preserving continuity with the existing NFT brand, broader subject matter was introduced to inform the new visual direction. Keywords such as;
- Coffee beans
- House
- Teeth
- Wireless
- Tech
became the conceptual building blocks for the refined identity.

Step III - Concept Reconstruction
Using the newly defined subject matter, the identity was rebuilt into a more structured system. The recognizable Rex illustration was retained, while the logo was reconstructed within a bounding capsule shape to create stronger consistency and adaptability.

Step IV - Identity System Expansion
Additional supporting brand assets were developed, including alternate layouts, badge variations, and collateral-ready applications designed for packaging, merchandise, and storytelling touchpoints.

Step V - Final Presentation
The refined concept was presented as a more commercially adaptable and audience-aware evolution of the original coffeehouse brand extension.

Outcome
Together, both design explorations demonstrate how brand identities evolve through strategic thinking and collaborative refinement. The project highlights two valid but distinct responses to the same challenge, one rooted in pure brand continuity, and the other in broader audience relatability and commercial adaptation.

While the client ultimately did not move forward with final implementation, the work reflects thoughtful brand strategy, iterative design problem-solving, and the ability to translate existing digital ecosystems into physical consumer experiences.
