ABOUT

Hunter Syndrome (GAG) is a rare genetic disorder that occurs when an enzyme your body needs is either missing or doesn’t work properly.

If the body doesn’t have enough of the enzyme to break down certain complex molecules, the molecules build up in harmful amounts, eventually causing permanent, progressive damage affecting appearance, mental development, organ function and physical abilities.

There’s no cure for Hunter syndrome and life expectancy of patients is both painful and short, on average 18-20 years old. However, with treatment, patients can expect a healthier, more active longer life. It is therefore essential that patients receive their weekly treatment.

With treatment being time consuming, uncomfortable and causing side effects, patients are inclined to find excuses to miss some of them. This can have a serious effect on their health over a period of time, and ultimately, shorten their lifespan.

Brief: Find an engaging way to get Hunter Syndrome patients to attend their weekly hospital appointments.

Creative Idea: ‘GAG down. Life up’.

A HCP, password protected, iPad App game was created for patients as an incentive. Patients can only play the game with fellow HS sufferers while at hospital having their treatment. This had children looking forward to their weekly visits.

Result: Improved attendance figures and the collection of important patient data for better patient care.
