ABOUT

In September 2019 the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, along with V Management, conducted a charity road trip across the south of England. Starting at Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire, through the Cotswolds and then south-west to visit Gordon Murray Design and McLaren Technology Centre, finishing with the rare privilege of a gala dinner at Windsor Castle.

On this project I assisted Danielle Larson with the planning and art direction of the photography and then working with the DofE advised on the creation of a bespoke book for the teams from the road-trip. Working from the photos from Danielle (and Fergus Burnett for the gala dinner), I put together a series of 12 bespoke book pairings that had pages specific to the teams and then a 13th larger run of generic books for internal use, marketing and gifts for supporters and partners from the road-trip.

I worked from the DofE brand guidelines to create a clean, bright layout that gave focus to the photography whilst ensuring that text pages were easy to read and didn't fight with the imagery. The book was casebound with a separate dust jacket. The dust jacket used a strong image from the road-trip of the branded decals, doing away with the need for any front cover page furniture. With the hardcover, I used a shot from the Cambridge Gate for the front, with a reverse shot of the convoy that I took myself as secondary photographer from the top of the Long walk.

The feedback from the client has been really positive, saying "We have received some lovely comments back from guests, the books went down well and looked fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to create them"
