ABOUT

For this project I decided to try & tackle the issue of climate change by focusing on flight emissions. Although my final solution was originally intended locally, it could be adapted to work best on a global scale. The idea was to introduce a scheme where everyone is allocated a limited number of ‘emissions credits’ in the form of a ‘carbon credit card’ which would be mailed out annually to every citizen over the age of 18. Each year the number of credits allocated would be gradually lowered, resulting in an overall decrease in emissions. There would be four tiers of emissions based on a global system of ‘flight zones’ which are equally divided based on the longest possible flight distance. The system would always emanate from a central point based on the recipient's nearest airport as defined by their postcode. Once a person has ran out of credit, they could log on to a website connecting them to a global market, enabling them to purchase more credit from less polluting individuals, thereby rewarding them. I then came up with a brand identity and produced the relevant materials. These included the mailer containing a fold out A3 leaflet which explains the scheme on one side, and provides a constructible 3D reference map on the other, along with a more practical solution in the form of a mobile device application.
