Daniel Balanescu Fine Artist

ABOUT

Daniel Balanescu is a Romanian artist and curator who is known for his innovative approach to the use of public space in the presentation of art. One of his most notable projects involved the use of subway tickets as a canvas for artistic expression.
In this project, Balanescu curated a collection of subway tickets that had been used by commuters on the Bucharest subway system. He then invited people to use these tickets as a support for their work, creating a unique collection of miniature artworks that were both socially engaged and aesthetically striking.
The subway tickets themselves were an integral part of the project, as they represented a common experience shared by millions of commuters every day. By transforming these mundane objects into works of art, Balanescu and the participating artists were able to inject a sense of beauty and meaning into the everyday routine of commuting.
The resulting collection of subway ticket art wished to be exhibited in a public space, where it could be viewed by a wide audience of commuters and passersby. This was not a only brought the art to a wider audience but also served to engage the community in a dialogue about the role of public space in art and the importance of creativity in everyday life.
