I was commissioned for a book series where an integral part of the branding would be a figure with their head bent forward with the torso visible only to the shoulders, overshadowed by a strong font family. Details about how the character looked were very specific so attention to detail was a must with little room for personal preferences. As each character came from a different world I would use a combination of textures, details and gradients to reflect those differences and to set the tone for the reader, ensuring continuity remained throughout the cover series.
