While designing and developing the site we learnt so much about the history of this truly iconic drink.

Far too often brands try to talk about their provenance and their iconic status, without really having much of a history. From the day of its birth some 265 years ago Drambuie became an iconic drink.

The secret recipe was given to John MacKinnon as a gift from Bonnie Prince Charlie for aiding the Prince in his escape to The Isle of Skye. In 30's America Drambuie was used as a mixer to mask raw American prohibition spirits of their unrefined characters.

This led to the creation of one of the most iconic cocktails of all time, the Rusty Nail. Its exact origins are uncertain, but we know that it first appeared on the menu of an infamous New York club in the early 60's. To then be adopted by the Rat Pack as their drink of choice, finally cementing Drambuie's status as a legendary drink.
