ABOUT

The Q House is a small family house, designed by ubisapdesign studio, which is located on Ermoupoli outside of its historic center. The plot has a relatively orthogonal aspect ratio of 1: 2 sides and a slope of about 30% with its access being made from its narrow south-eastern side. This side is the best of the plot both in terms of orientation and energy benefits, as well as the unobstructed - from some height and above - view towards the sea.

The architectural study has been made in consideration of all the above possibilities and the constraints of the land, as through this narrow side both the accessibility of the building and the sunlight of most of its main spaces are achieved. The entrance of the residence is located at an intermediate level between the ground floor and the first floor via external stairs. From the entrance level, going up we meet the living spaces, such as the sitting room, the kitchen and the dining room. From this open-plan space you can access the front porch and there is nice view to the sea.

On the ground floor there are two bedrooms and a bathroom, while on the lower level of the basement there are storage areas, a wc and a small water reservoir. In the area at the back of the plot is formed a yard, with most of it being planted and accessible through the entrance area. Although the shape of the house is strictly geometric, the "addition" of the entrance space, the balcony, the ladder and generally the front exterior configuration create a contemporary aesthetic effect while at the same time securing residents from the north winds at the semi-open balcony.
