ABOUT

The Machine is a theatrical play about the world famous chess game between Gary Kasparov and IBM super computer 'Deep Blue'.

Created for the Manchester International Festival and performed in the Campfield Market Hall before travelling state side to New York in the Park Avenue Armory.

As part of a creative team with AMG productions I helped create a number of visual segments for the play which was projected around the specially deigned studio on large screens.

The brief for this section was to make an early 90s american sports intro title sequence. The piece is a pastiche of different american sports intros that was researched and I was very happy with the final result.

I also worked collaboratively on another section of the show animating a looping section of futuristic binary code in a 3d environment. This section was to reflect the inner workings of Deep Blue as the machine accessed different areas of it's database to calculate the next chess move.

I loved working on this project, it was perhaps one of the highlights of my current freelance tenure. Shame I haven't had a chance to see the play in action.
