2014 marked a significant milestone in the history of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Sixty years ago, the first ever right-hand drive Transporter, the T1 arrived in the UK and our PR, and specialist film division, helped mark the occasion with the creation of an anniversary video: The Volkswagen Transporter - 60 years in 60 seconds.

The T1 marked the start of a revolution in the commercial vehicle industry and is celebrating its UK diamond anniversary as one of world’s biggest selling commercial vehicles with variants such as the camper enjoying cult status across generations of owners.

From the T1 to today’s T5, the Transporter’s appeal remains unique. Over the years the Transporter has helped millions of owners build businesses and fulfil dreams - from Globetrotters to gardeners, beatniks to builders, the Transporter has become the default choice for many generations.

The original T1 made its public debut at the Earls Court Commercial Motor Show in 1954, and our team marked every momentous step to the present day to showcase the vehicle’s evolution and history.
