Bamboo Forest is a collection of 8 pieces of furniture and lighting made in bamboo and glass. The project aims to update traditional bamboo crafts from japan in order to improve the properties of bamboo poles and widen the possibilities for this material.

The project was developed in collaboration with Yokoyama and Windsor Workshop. Yokoyama is one of the top bamboo suppliers in Japan, they not only provided the bamboo, but gave us a very interesting insight on their traditional techniques. Windsor Workshop is one of the most prestigious workshops in the UK, and we had the honor to work with them side by side to build the prototypes that were exhibited at Milano´s Salone Satellite.

Our main goal was to change the natural properties of the bamboo so that it could be uses in today´s design industry. To do so, we developed an innovative system based on traditional crafts in which we fill the empty space inside the bamboo with PU resin and stainless steel parts.These altered bamboo poles were then machined and UV-glued to the glass surfaces. The process might seem quite simple, but it requires an important pre-treatment that we elaborated over many months of research.
