ABOUT
The King’s Experience Global Award is one which recognises engagement with other cultures. The objective is to create a piece of work that can reflect and communicate this experience.
To truly embrace and communicate Japanese culture through a printed medium, I used Ukiyo-e woodblock prints to set the visual tone for this piece. Furthermore, I utilised traditional Japanese book binding tools and sewing techniques to craft this book. The premise is to immerse the reader into the respected culture, heritage and immediate knowledge behind the basic principles of this fascinating language.
The result is a visually striking, hand-crafted book relating to cultural aspects of Japan. Furthermore, an immersive digital application with emphasis on pronunciation and writing strokes was produced with similar themes and visual tones.
This award was successfully obtained in February 2015.
