ABOUT
Background: The AWF’s ‘Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream’ project was threatening to cease due to lack of funds. With no budget but a lot of manpower (volunteers at the base), we needed to quickly produce an effective something that would generate funds and raise awareness of this worthy cause.
Idea: Inspired by the Plastiki challenge, we decided to create a boat out of plastic bottles and sail it 26 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, between Tenerife and La Gomera. We would produce a documentary of the whole process, then release it during Climate Week to reach our target demographic.
Results: We became one of Climate Week’s most watched non-paid media with over 50,000 views of the documentary in its first week of release, reaching the right audiences. We obtained sponsorship from Fatface, Gopro, Climate Week and a few others raising over £10,000 in just 2 weeks. The ‘Plant a Tree’ project had multiplied it’s donations that month by 8 . . and still continues to this day.
Notes: I also directed and edited the ‘Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream’ call to action video.
