About me

I'm currently the senior wayfinding and signage designer at LOCOG, I've been responsible for the kit of parts design and implementation. I'm also a wayfinding and signage delivery manager at four competition venues.

I've worked exclusively in information design for the last six years; this has predominantly covered branding, mapping, signage and wayfinding design. I'm keen to find a project or job that puts my expertise and experience to good use. I've worked on variety of large-scale venues from international stations and airports through to wild life parks and more recently London 2012.

Its hard to quantify my experience at LOCOG, it's been a very intense, exciting and educational job. I've worked across 35 functional areas, collaborated with multiple venue teams, liaised with the ODA and interacted with a variety of external consultancies and manufactures. I've had to overcome tight budgets and deadlines and adhere to strict substantiality policies. As is the case with all my design I've had to meet the highest standards or accessibly to ensure we meet the needs of the end user. This experience has made me a versatile designer and consultant capable of working in any environment.

Throughout my career I've built up a strong relationship with a variety of manufactures, product suppliers and consultancies, this has greatly improved my ability to deliver a successful project on time and on budget.

I start any wayfinding project by familiarizing myself with the venue and client flows, considering pinch and decision points is all-important. I'm a very functional designer, which allows me to assess a project quickly and accurately to determine an appropriate solution. I'm very aware that good wayfinding goes well beyond the signs themselves to the environment they sit within; a successful journey is about the whole experience.

Beyond signing and information design I've also had experience in branding having produced the logo and brand guidelines for the Nol travel card in Dubai, the equivalent to our Oyster travel card in the UK. I've also had extensive experience adhering to brand guidelines for multiple consumer brands and a variety transport operators.

My skill set would be well suited to for fill any role within the wayfinding and signage sector. The experience I've had to date has made me a strong and highly competent senior designer and specialist consultant. I can project manage, handle large budgets, advise on sign placement, reading distance, legibility and colour contrast, I'm also a competent designer and a quick artworker. I'm confident any references from my current or pervious employer would reflect this.

My CV should give you a bit of insight into the projects I've worked on over the last few years, if you have any questions please let me know.

Kind regards,

Chris Girling
