ABOUT
This project is all about evaluating the importance
of legibility through experimentation. My
Dissertation looks at the avant garde approaches
to the rules of typography of futurism/dadaism and
1980/90postmodernists.Through this research I Have
learnt about pushing boundaries and testing the limits
of communication. When you alter a factor that would
normally reign supreme such as legibility especially
when it comes to typography where it is a given that
the work must be read. As Erik Spiekermann suggests
in his book stop stealing sheep (Spiekermann, E. and
Ginger,E. 2003) we expect a certain degree of legibility
and from time to time but become quick to dismiss a
piece that breaks the rules or pushes the boundaries
of design as in fact not a piece of design at all but
one big mistake. This led me to experiment with
typographic legibility on old CRT monitors which in
turn were a lot more legible than I expected. Which led
me to think about how we read typography in design.
