ABOUT
This project is mainly aimed at providing both auditory and visual ways for users to glean information from the dataset, in particular, data about their personal music collections, which are increasingly available in digital form and may, over time, provide interesting glimpses into people’s everyday behavior patterns and special life events and therefore signify a key resource for meaningful memories.
This program can be divided into two parts: Sonification and Visualisation. In the sonification part, I mapped each data point in music collections to music notes and used artificial intelligence to create algorithm to permute and combine notes into pieces of music, which shows the structure of music collections. In the visualisation part, I mainly used D3.js to visualise personal music collections. The visualisation used circle pack, timeline to show the structure of personal music collections.
The result if pretty good. Users knew their music collection better after interacted with the visualisation and listened to the music the system created. And most of them thought the visualisation worked better to show the data structure than the sonification whereas sonification is much more innovative.
