Challenge

Lixivia were excited in introducing their SELEX technology, a pioneering method of extracting valuable materials from the by-products of mining using safe and eco-friendly chemicals. This achievement will help reduce emissions, reducing mining burdens and utilise the already large stockpiles of mineral tailings and waste products. The technology is applicable to various ore types, tailings and other recycled materials.

We were tasked to create an animation to explain the process, target markets, target feedstocks, the eco-friendliness, licensing business model and the creation of value through Lixivia.

Concept

During our brainstorming session an island was imagined where it started out gloomy with a large mining operation and various industries benefiting from the by-products of the mining operation, clearing the air and environment in the process. We had a relatively tight deadline (and the client also wanted the animation to be approachable and cute) thus we decided that a low-poly approach to the look of the animation would be the direction to go. A voiceover is also decided to be used at this point to reduce clutter on the screen and let the imagery tell the story.

We created a few concept drawings of various key points to convey the mood of the story.

Lixivia were very excited about our approach and we moved into storyboarding and then sculpting the island in Cinema 4D. We created stylised renditions of the various feedstocks integral to the story; parallel to this our team had also begin creating camera and prop movements matching a temporary voiceover to create our first pre-visualisation of the animation.

Results

Our clean and speedy approach to tackling an otherwise complicated chemical process through bright and simple animations whilst ticking all the boxes Lixivia required made this project one of our most memorable to date, and a great debut showcase for our client to educating the mass and customers alike.
