MINI is developing co-living spaces aimed at the Creative Class, designed to encourage people in them to cross paths and meet new people.

MINI asked for a product which can be used within the living spaces in a MINI living building, over coming the challenges of urban living. Based on my research I developed the Sensing Light, a light that would cater to the duality of the creative class and their need for products which can be as flexible as their lifestyles, quickly going from work to play in the same communal space.

The Sensing Light was coded to adapt to the sound levels in the room via a sound sensor in the base of the light. With low levels of sound through the day, the light would adapt accordingly and emit a white focus light; as the working day ends and more people gather the light would shift to a warm candlelit ambience; finally as the drinks and banter begin to take over and the music increases, the light moves through a beautiful array of hues providing the perfect party light for the social atmosphere.
