Connor Duin Sound Designer

ABOUT

A director working for NZ company FISHNCLIPS, who was a previous client of mine, contacted me needing some sound design as he had just completed the shoot in LA for Alison Wonderland's upcoming video for MESSIAH. All he had to say was "it involves fire, police, guns and a car chase" and I was in. He sent her last video featuring McLovin' from Superbad as a reference.

I was nervous starting this project, as I had just finished a freelancing stint at an Auckland post studio and could no longer use their studio as it was peak season. I ended up designing and mixing all the sound for the video on my macbook pro, using ProTools and my pair of AT headphones. I ran into a lot of problems as I was used to using Pro Tools HD, so when I started work on my non-HD setup, I was hindered by the limitations of my version of Pro Tools. But I worked around this, creating multiple sessions for Directors Cuts and alternative edits etc. I worked back and forth with the director via email to make the appropriate tweaks and such, finishing the project on Christmas eve of 2016.

I am very proud of the work I produced for this project as it made me realise as while big studios and lots of fancy gear are lovely and inspiring, they are not absolutely essential. Both director and the client were extremely happy with the results and the video has since been released on multiple platforms.
