ABOUT

Finding inspiration amidst a pandemic can be tough. One day I was listening to an interview with designer Ian Anderson (TDR) and on the topic of inspiration for CD covers he said he would look at anything that wasn't a CD cover.
As I'm sure you're aware, the craft beer market has gone pretty crazy in the past few years. I've seen tons of great designs in all sorts of styles and often wondered what would I do if I had the opportunity to design one. With Ian's words in mind I started thinking about everyday products with instantly recognisable designs that aren't beer. A fire extinguisher came to mind with its very simple, stripped back, functional design. It was perfect! Taking on the principles of a fire extinguisher's design (use of strictly white and red, how-to-use illustrations, warning messages) I designed my own little beer can. I didn't know what to name it so I typed 'beer' in google translate and scrolled through a number of translations. "Mowa" had a nice ring to it, it means both 'beer' and 'alcohol' in Chewa - a language used in a number of countries across Southeast Africa.
