Value Postcards
The Brief
As part of an individuals therapy, the Learning Disability Services use a system of cards known as Value Cards. These have been created to help people suffering from mental health conditions in order for them to gain a perspective on what they value in life and so consider a way forward by using personal values as a focal point.The client wanted to further refine these existing cards in any appropriate way to make them even more effective, usable, attractive, dynamic and adaptable. This will initially involve understanding how they are currently used, but you also consider other possibilities for example, different media or a more commercial use, maybe looking to monetarize them, package them or use the concept in a new and vibrant way.
Insight
Writing things down can clear the mind and clarify your goals, priorities, and intentions. Therefore the writing and sending of postcards to trigger the patient’s next appointment, can reinforce values between sessions without pressure of responding immediately.
How It Works
Postcard Designs
The design is inspired by silk postcards from WW1. The embellishments in the corners represent each value. The typeface was designed to add a handcrafted feel, using continuous line to resemble staying connected.
Packaging Design
The packaging is inspired by a memory box, as they are used to store personal and sentimental items. The packaging has added embellishments like the postcards to keep the style consistent.
The instructions will be placed inside the lid of the packaging. This prevents the instructions from getting lost. The tone of voice is kept simple and clear to avoid confusion and make it easy to read for the wide demographic of users. 
Visual Boards
I took part in the exercise and decided to create visual boards of my three most important values and designed more boards using themes found in them. By doing this it helped me to come up with ideas and use as visual  references.
