I started my career where all good strategists should begin, in research working in the media department of a large research organisation. My degree was a BSc with a huge emphasis on statistics so I was very comfortable with large amounts of data analysis.
The regular contact with advertising agencies gave me a real interest in this line of work and it wasn't long before I made the move to Initiative media where firstly I worked in the research team and then moved to become a Communications Strategist on the Unilever account.
Five very exciting years passed here where I learned from the best in the business working on Unilever. I then moved on to work in two more agencies on a vast array of brands and categories including Nestle, Kellogg's, Ebay, Expedia PepsiCo, Haven, Tourism Ireland, Legal and General, McCain, and Weetabix managing marketing budgets of up to £50m.
I also spent some time at a media owner working as a Client Strategist for Global Radio. This was an incredibly exciting time for Global and this really honed my creative idea generation and innovation skills.
Running my own business as a Brand Positioning and Marketing Strategy consultant was where I put together my own successful process to unlock clear and focussed brand positioning for clients.
I then retuned to agency land as a Managing Partner and Head of Client Service and where I was quickly promoted to Head of Marketing and New Business for five agencies within the Havas group. This is where I continued to hone my brand positioning craft and led a team of fifteen working on B2B marketing for our agencies and B2C marketing strategy for new business pitches.
My most recent position was Head of Marketing for Quaker at PepsiCo where I was responsible for all aspects of marketing from Brand Positioning through to Digital Marketing execution. Here, reporting directly into the General Manager, I managed a team of three and a marketing budget of £10m.
