ABOUT

Brief:

As part of its annual Artist Editions series, Absolut reunited with the Keith Haring Foundation to create a global limited-edition bottle celebrating the legacy of their iconic 1986 collaboration.
The challenge was to honour Keith Haring’s unmistakable visual language while creating a contemporary bottle that would resonate with a global audience and remain undeniably Absolut. The design needed to balance cultural authenticity, shelf standout and collectability.

Concept:

Built around the idea of Iconic Revival, the bottle reimagines one of Absolut’s most celebrated artistic collaborations for a new generation.

Rather than reproducing Haring’s artwork as surface graphics, the design transforms his visual language into structural form. His signature dancing figures are debossed directly into the glass, creating depth, tactility and a sense of movement - as if the bottle itself has a pulse.
The objective was to create a bottle that felt unmistakably Haring, while remaining distinctly Absolut. The design celebrates the shared cultural legacy of both icons while reinforcing Absolut’s long-standing commitment to creativity, self-expression and artistic collaboration.
Targeted at design-conscious consumers, collectors and a new generation seeking authentic cultural connections, the bottle translates a historic creative partnership into a contemporary packaging experience with global relevance.

Execution:

The bottle combines structural design, material innovation and optical illusion to create standout within the clear spirits category.

Keith Haring’s iconic figures were precision debossed directly into the clear glass, transforming a two-dimensional artwork into a tactile sculptural surface. The design uses a single screen-printed yellow panel positioned on the reverse of the bottle. Viewed through the transparent glass, it creates an optical illusion that makes the entire bottle appear luminous yellow, while preserving the clarity of the spirit.

This approach delivered maximum visual impact with minimal intervention, allowing the artwork and bottle form to work together as one integrated design system.
The bottle was manufactured at Ardagh Glass Packaging’s facility in Limmared, Sweden, and produced for global distribution across travel retail and key international markets.

Materials included:
Clear debossed glass bottle
Heavy-metal-free ceramic screen-print inks
Aluminium closure
Tamper-proof shrink seal

Sustainability considerations were integrated throughout the development process. The optical illusion effect maximised colour impact while minimising ink coverage, while the structural decoration reduced the need for additional labels and secondary components. Embossing depth was carefully engineered to achieve visual impact without adding unnecessary glass weight.

Results:

The Absolut Haring Artist Edition launched globally through travel retail before rolling out across more than 40 markets including the UK, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Australia, China, Italy and Poland.

By reinterpreting one of the brand’s most iconic creative collaborations through structural packaging design, the project reinforced Absolut’s cultural credentials while introducing the Haring legacy to a new generation of consumers.

The bottle achieved strong shelf visibility within the premium spirits category, generated global retail presence, and created a highly collectible edition that successfully merged art, culture and commerce through a single iconic object.
