The assignment was to create a construction kit to give to family groups in tropical areas that had been affected by some sort of natural disaster.
The kit must have all the tools and materials necessary for the family members to put the house together without any additional help, hence it should be structurally self-supporting, as well as easy to store and transport. The project was conceived as a real-size game of Mecano, where perforated pieces joined by plastic over-sized screws enabled easy handling. The traditional image of the gable roof house, very appropriate for tropical climates, is transformed into an industrial object to be mass-produced. The resulting emergency home can grow to shelter larger families according to necessity.
Real-scale models were built for verification.
