ABOUT
Butterfly Cannon unites two icons of Indian luxury with Godawan Single Malt Exclusive To The Taj Palaces
A collaboration that merges the iconic luxury of Taj—recognized as the World's Strongest Hotel Brand and India's Strongest Brand in 2024—with Godawan, India’s most awarded single malt whisky. The result? A limited-edition, artisanal whisky available solely at Taj’s prestigious palaces in Mumbai, Jaipur, and Hyderabad.
To craft the design for this exclusive 300-bottle release, Butterfly Cannon delved into the brands' shared dedication to mindful, purpose-driven luxury. Taj’s commitment to preserving India's architectural and cultural heritage aligns perfectly with Godawan’s mission to protect the Great Indian Bustard (also known as the Godawan) from extinction. Each purchase supports Godawan conservation efforts, while the brand itself is built on sustainable practices such as supporting local agriculture, using solar energy, and addressing water scarcity in Rajasthan, the Godawans’ homeland. An ethos in harmony with Taj’s sustainability initiative, ‘Paathya,’ which focuses on reducing carbon footprints and supporting India’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070.
The design of the individually numbered bottles reflects the rich heritage of Rajasthan and the opulent craftsmanship found in Taj's grand palaces. The Godawan wordmark, a modern interpretation of a traditional Rajasthani typeface, blooms from a gold foil horizon line - representing the vast desert landscapes essential to the Godawan’s survival. The subtle colour and texture of the FSC-certified label are reminiscent of the refined marblework in Taj’s palaces, coupled with vibrant, coral-red accents from Taj’s brand palette. The hand-drawn bird logo, accompanied by the phrase “Born and Nurtured in Rajasthan,” serves as a seal of quality and commitment to conservation.
Exquisite gold-foiled illustrations of Taj Grand Palaces are featured around the bottle’s neck, and a ‘Jaali’ pattern at the base, echoing the beautiful and iconic latticework found throughout Taj’s architectural landmarks.
With the Godawan facing extinction due to climate change and habitat loss, sustainability was a core consideration for this special edition. The whisky was sourced from Godawan’s vault in Alwar, Rajasthan, where the distillery is now Alliance for Water Stewardship-certified and water-positive. The whisky's key ingredient, 6-row barley, was sourced locally, while the packaging was responsibly produced with recycled and FSC-certified materials, and locally optimised glass.
This exclusive whisky was launched at the Taj Palace in Mumbai, accompanied by a panel discussion on heritage and preservation, followed by a luxury dinner pairing Godawan whiskies with a curated menu from the Taj Palaces. The 300-bottle limited edition is now available at the Grand Palaces of Mumbai, Jaipur, and Hyderabad for ₹11,000 (approximately $131).
