ABOUT

Who is Agnes? Urban Myth.

Once upon a time, there was a very successful wine merchant and his wife, no matter what the year was his wines would always come out very flavoursome and nice even though the vineyards right next to his would produce awful wines and eventually would’ have to close down their business.
Years later during an inspection, it turns out that his secret was that he kept a corpse in the barrel for extra flavour!
To come up with a name for his wine and design of the label, I created a story of the merchant who had an arranged marriage with Agnes.
The tale’s background is set in the South of France, and our heroine is Agnes a young English rose.
Upon arriving in France she found herself alone with no one to protect her. Although she represented an Anglo-French entente, there’s nothing to prevent
the English abandoning her or the French likewise. Her new husband paid her no interest and the marriage quickly disintegrated and Agnes was ostracised by all around her.
By contrast, the romantic behaviour of Agnes was more normally associated with an affair.
Only when he decided to take her back, the merchant discovered unfaithful his wife, after no one saw her in their property.

The main graphic image, inverted woman’s silhouette, created by calligraphy inspired by the work of Elizabethan poet Ben Jonson.

“Drinke to me, onely, with thine eyes. And I will pledge with mine Or leave a kisse but in the cup, And Ile not looke for wine, Th thirst that from the soule doth rise, Doth aske a drinke divine but might O of Jove’s Nectar sup, I
would not change for thine.”
