Broken Doodle Automotive Concept Artist

ABOUT

Lamborghini V12

Like many good projects, this started as a napkin drawing of sorts. A few goals were set, visual experimentation was front and center. The result was possibly the longest series of renders I've done in the past year.

As it has become a habit, each time I base a project on a V12 Lamborghini I end up pushing beyond my previous limits. The Miura was the very first automobile-related full 3D project I worked on. In hindsight, it looks incredibly different from the original car while showing off a head-first dive into the deep end of 3D.

The second project of this calibre was a prototype Countach. Also modeled from the ground up and with a very clear story to tell, this project was my first venture into a physics-accurate rendering engine pushing me towards photorealism. The car bore an evolution of the original design pointed towards retrofuturism and the cyberpunk aesthetic.

And cyberpunk comes back yet again for my third and latest project of this nature.

Different Specs

A key inspiration for this project came from looking at album art open next to the images for my research. What if I could paint a car like a forest? That particular look is present in the two Mario Kart inspired renders, with a flashier color and pattern choice used for the Art Spec.

Another noteworthy render is the one used as a cover for this series. Inspired by the recent trend of overexaggerated 2000's imagery and 3D rendered chrome elements filled with glare. It is a personal favorite and a style I will be further exploring soon enough.

Finally there is the Cyber Spec, made as a callback to the Countach and an excellent introduction to the car's new lines and details. It uses the expectations set by popular culture to better guide the viewer when first encountering the redesign.

TKO Diablo

Picking the Diablo as a starting point I was very much aware of its significance. Armed with a powerful engine and with visual development in mind I dove yet again, seeking a different approach.

Experimentation can be seen towards the series. Image noise goes from digital, to analogue, to non-existant. Lens flares are fully explored and incorporated into the different looks. Different framing and virtual camera setups are used throughout to enhance the exploration of the model and its flashy style.

Likewise new materials were employed with AI-powered patterns, new node arrays and boosted with in-engine custom post processing. Holograms, multiple types of transparent materials, multicolor paintjobs and more allow the final "art car" look.

All images were generated entirely within Blender, with made in Illustrator decals.
