ABOUT

Higher Fidelity

Over the years I have had the pleasure of admiring the work of both photographers and CG artists. Above all, I admire the pursuit of imperfection for the sake of explaining to the eyes that it is, in fact, a representation. A good representation.

Photographers, good ones at least, often focus on taking away information from the image as to narrow down what the image conveys. To make it as easy to read as possible, even to the untrained eye. The drama, the energy, the emotion, all come from this effort in distilling the image from anything one does not care to communicate through it.

The biggest distinction between a photographer and any kind of artist that produces a rendering is this process of subtraction. Any other artist will have the opposite task - to add.

Easily enough can I position my object in the frame. Change the environment around it. Break the rules of space and light in any way I please. Be it a pen, lead or a pointer. My tools will rarely set the limits of my scene. My objective then becomes adding as much detail as I possibly can. Be it something which adds to the scene or the rendering of said scene.

Naturally, at some point one will realize there's sense, beauty and utility in adding the imperfections often seen as a byproduct of photography. It is therefore always an additive process for an artist. Adding the world's constraints to the work.
