ABOUT
New Color
While planning for this design I fought the urge of painting it red. The car is based off the Maserati MC-12, which was created with the Ferrari Enzo as a starting point. And while it was made with a completely different purpose in mind (you can read about it in the previous series) it still retains some of its essence. Add to that a heavy modern Ferrari inspiration when redesigning it and you get something that feels more like a brother rather than cousin.
New Look
I've been rendering cars for the internet for a while now and somehow never quite settled for a style. With each new series I aim to innovate or at least improve my own skills. This time around is no different.
The goal was to reduce time spent on building sets that will ultimately fade into the background, pardon the pun. Three walls, a few slots and slabs and an elevated platform. While not as simple as the previous green hell (no affiliation) it is still incredibly simple to put together and work with.
In addition, the illumination provides an almost hypnotic look to any reflective surface on the subject, making the paint look its best ever.
New Style
There is a stark contrast between this series and most of my previous work. This change came from s new understanding of how peculiar lighting can impact a scene. Instead of simulating natural illumination I went for a more studio-like approach while simultaneously making sure there was a light signature to the set.
Another not so subtle change was in the materials used for the MC-13 itself. The paint's glossiness was cranked to eleven and the use of highly reflective materials is abundant. This heavily contrasts with the fully matte set, making the subject pop that much more. The color choice for the body was no accident either. Not only does it evoke the car's Ferrari heritage, it also sticks out from the white walls in a way only a bolder darker color can, while still not mixing with the black void around the set.
New Angles
During the development of this series I kept rendering test shots in order to fine-tune the image processing and color balance. As a result, this series will pack three extra shots.
One of the objectives set out for this series was to lead the viewer through the car's design in a way which allows them to better appreciate details and perspectives that may otherwise go unnoticed.
As a bonus, it better conveys just how thorough the redesign was. By showing every nook and cranny from the best possible angle, one should be able to take away a full understanding of the car's shapes in a meaningful way.
