For the longest time I held the F40 as the great Ferrari. The one Ferrari. The image of the race car, the sports car, and everything performance oriented even a quarter century after its debut. It had the raked front, the big wing at the rear, it was red.
As the years went by I learned to look a little deeper. I found out how old the car truly was and how far things had come since then. I then tried to love the F50 just as much, but couldn't. I tried the Testarossa and its iterations. The Enzo and La Ferrari were certainly delights. But something stuck with me. The true racecar for the road had made an impression that couldn't just go away.
After all this time, I sought to take on the iconic design. Aware of what other 3D automotive artists have done and how much or little I agreed with their choices. Aware of the different OEM and non-OEM specs the name carried. And with the recent LB endeavour in mind. I set off to make a true widebody F40.
The entire body has been lowered and widened. I'd encourage one to look at pictures of the original side by side. I have also smoothed or replaced many of the many inlets and outputs the original had throughout its body. And perhaps the most striking aspect, I added a Group C wing setup. Complete with clear sections to allow for brake lights visibility. This is the LeMans Omologata.
This work is a part of a trio of vintage Ferrari redesigns.
