Colani's Miura

Luigi Colani's Lamborghini Miura LeMans Concept was by far one of the most outlandish and exotic designs of its time. With the development of computer generated imagery (CGI) and high-poly 3D graphics one no longer needs to go far to encounter such an outlandish machine.

There is, however, a caveat in the fact that most 3D automotive artists seek to modify what is nowadays mundane. Most of us have modified the bleeding edge, the distant past, and everything in between. But what about what could have been?

With this project I sought to combine the abandoned innovation in Luigi Colani's Miura design with the abandoned innovation in Carrozzeria Pininfarina's Ferrari 512 Speciale (not to be confused with the 512 S). The result was an alien form, sharply arching in between the axles.

This work is a part of a trio of vintage Ferrari redesigns.
