My work focuses with human form with allegorical interpretations of acts of death, afterlife and the in between transition of these two acts. These interpretations are resolved through oil paintings and mono prints of figures, a symbolism is depicted through a stance, or act in which these characters are performing. For instance, the characters are usually depicted falling, slumped over, walking or staring at the viewer in a melancholic state while being resolved through dark purples and earthy colours, representing eeriness and the feeling of loss. Artists such as Henry Fuseli, Christopher Le Brun, Dan Coombs and J.M.W Turner have influenced me with human form and dark thematic responses to mortality. Through their use of colour, lighting and skill in producing a visual narrative and sometimes an allegorical one.
Furthermore, my most recent project is depictions of my Father passing away and a response to a visual interpretation of his transcendence from life to death, but more so, the journey to an afterlife; which is more of a depiction of what I visually feel on that given subject. Yet, this theme is nothing new, I believe culturally death can be portrayed in many ways from philosophy to science. I have chosen a more romanticizing approach to create my own visual narrative that I feel is my very own depiction on the subject of mortality.
