ABOUT

Vinca is shaking up the wine category. A pioneer in premium canned wine, the next natural step was to go BIG.

With plans to launch its range of organic Sicilian wines in 100% recycled aluminium 750ml bottles – the first brand to do this in the wine category – Vinca asked Brandon to partner on the packaging design.

With existing strong brand equity in its canned products, our design idea puts the brand’s original format front and centre. Placing the wordmark inside a can-shaped graphic device to tie the two ranges together, we then used the new bottle structure as a canvas to express the essence of contemporary Sicily; from landscape to culture to character.

Sustainable design doesn’t need to be muted.

Amping up the brand’s colour palette, our choice of bold yellows, reds, and greens evokes the vibrancy of the Mediterranean to give Vinca’s products unmissable standout when seen amidst rows of expected glass wine bottles.

Inspired by the high-end editorial aesthetics that Vinca’s audience is attracted to, our bold graphic patterns reference modern-day Sicilian culture, complemented by the more refined hand-drawn depictions of vine leaves winding around the bottle.

Key sustainability and provenance messaging is proudly communicated through new stamp and sticker-like graphic assets, speaking directly to consumers looking for a more environmentally conscious drinking experience.

Celebrating the new packaging material was also an important part of the design story. Working closely with Vinca’s production partner to eliminate the need for additional materials, our design balances direct-to-bottle printed assets with negative space to allow the tactile aluminium texture to shine through. Maximum visual impact, minimal environmental impact.

The result is boldly modern, deeply rooted in place, and unlike anything else on shelf. With sustainability and quality at the heart of the brand, Vinca’s new range of aluminium wine bottles have been designed to hero the eco credentials of its products and packaging, whilst also being beautiful enough for people to display at home and reuse time and time again.

And consumers agreed. The first production run sold out in just 7 weeks, with over 100,000 bottles sold within the first 8 weeks.

Vinca’s co-founder, Jack Green, said, “We are so excited to finally share our fully recyclable full-sized aluminium wine bottles with the world! Our canned wines have quickly become the ‘go-to’ wine at music festivals and theatres, and on trains and airlines and now we’re delighted to introduce our new aluminium bottles. They have all the quality and deliciousness of premium Sicilian wine, but with less environmental impact than the traditional glass.”
