ABOUT
Concept
“Winston & Daisy” emerged from the Homespun Yarns short film competition, which challenged filmmakers to craft narratives inspired by the theme “fragments.” Directors Ben Fallows and Felix Brady envisioned a unique blend of gritty crime and puppetry, describing their concept as “Lock Stock meets the Muppets.” The film centers on a Bonnie and Clyde-esque duo executing a cunning heist, infusing traditional heist tropes with a whimsical twist.
Execution
Blonde collaborated with Fallows and Brady to bring this imaginative vision to life. The production marked Blonde’s inaugural venture into puppetry, undertaken over two consecutive night shoots on a modest budget. The film starred Jason Flemyng as Winston, adding gravitas to the quirky narrative. Post-production was a collaborative effort: editing at Homespun, sound design at Wave, visual effects at Electric Theatre Collective, and color grading at Cheat. The collective dedication of all involved ensured a polished final product that belied its limited resources.
Results
“Winston & Daisy” captivated audiences, securing the top prize at the Homespun Yarns competition through audience vote. The project not only showcased Blonde’s versatility and willingness to explore unconventional storytelling methods but also highlighted the power of creative collaboration. The film stands as a testament to what can be achieved when passion and innovation converge, even within tight constraints.
