Upon completing my training in New Zealand I was recruited by the production company associated with the school. Being part of a small, professional company provided me ample opportunity to work in key roles with creative responsibility while still being mentored by my tutors post-graduation. In addition, working for a regional TV station and a video game company, I have been fortunate to work in diverse facets of the entertainment industry. The broad exposure to the creative process has developed not only my production skills, but also my philosophies on human nature and interaction.
A film-lover from an early age, I have always loved the influence a narrative can have over an audience. People invariably look for themselves in others. So for a fictional character or story to connect with someone, there has been a small existential victory made by the filmmaker. It can be cathartic for myself as an editor to remove any Ego of my own experiences and instead allow myself to relate closer with the collective audience. In my opinion, no amount of technical proficiency can imitate the knack of good storytelling.
