The Lystrosaurus murrayi was a medium-sized herbivorous therapsid with a compact, robust body. It had a short skull ending in a keratinous beak, accompanied by two small upper tusks. Its torso was wide and heavy, with a large rib cage, and the limbs were strong and somewhat sprawled, giving it a low but stable posture. The tail was very short and the neck barely defined. It likely moved slowly and could dig, feeding on low vegetation in arid or semi-arid environments.
