ABOUT
Transforming Mental Health Awareness.
How can sound help audiences understand the lived experience of depression? Darkening VR answers this question through an innovative approach to therapeutic audio that earned a prestigious Venice Film Festival nomination.
This project demonstrates how strategic sound design can transform abstract emotional states into tangible experiences that build empathy and understanding.
Recognition & Impact:
Venice Film Festival Best Experience nomination, with clinical feedback confirming the experience increased empathy and understanding.
Using my Emotitone Circle methodology, I created a precise mapping between emotional states and musical elements, allowing users to experience the protagonist's journey through depression not just visually, but through a complete emotional soundscape.
A breakthrough aspect was the development of voice-responsive audio environments, where the protagonist's humming, singing, and vocal expressions trigger transformative changes in the soundscape, mirroring therapeutic techniques used in real treatment settings.
This project exemplifies how I transform client vision into emotionally powerful experiences that not only entertain but create meaningful change in perception and understanding.
