ABOUT

The brief was simple. Create a believable planetarium environment. Keep the focus on the young couple at the center of the scene.
I hung a stationary mirror ball at the geometric center of the ceiling. I chose narrow beam moving heads on a circular truss that tracked the curve of the room. Instead of using haze and visible beams, I drove tight white beams directly into the ball. The reflected points scattered across a high band of grey projection screens that wrapped the perimeter.
I washed the room in a restrained blue. Constellation gobos sat low in the mix. They supported the environment but never overpowered it.
As well as part of this project I was commissioned to build an old timey loading screen system, this was programmed in Python and presented the stage management with full control of how fast the loading bar ran and gave options of humorous error messages should there be any show delays.
