ABOUT
Overview
This project explored how an existing frozen food store could be reimagined into a fully operational martial arts training center for Sengoku Martial Arts.
The mission was to overcome the building’s former retail layout — harsh lighting, obstructive fixtures, limited atmosphere etc. and redesign the footprint into a space built for discipline, focus, movement, and safety.
The feasibility study included floorplans, spatial flow modelling, CAD drawings, and brand‑aligned thematic proposals, establishing what was possible before committing to any structural changes.
Thematic Direction
The new dojo design replaced the sterile, fluorescent retail environment with:
Warm timber lines
Shoji‑inspired textures
Muted neutrals and matte finishes
Minimalistic decor
Clean ceiling lines and indirect lighting
The goal was to support Sengoku’s philosophy: focus, discipline, clarity, respect.
Design Goals / Objectives
Transform a non‑themed retail unit into a cohesive martial arts environment through layout, materials, and lighting.
Create a high‑function, high‑safety training hall with clear sightlines and safe movement space.
Maximise usable footprint while keeping clutter, noise, and distractions to a minimum.
Extend Sengoku’s brand identity into a new location without high construction cost.
Ensure operational and instructional efficiency during peak class changeovers.
Deliver a feasibility package that enabled cost estimation, contractor planning, and risk reduction.
