ABOUT

Roboat is a startup creating Amsterdam's first fleet of autonomous boats. They wanted to excite people about the potential of the technology and build an emotional connection with the public.

I designed, created and welded an anatomical heart sculpture to place on the boat, and choreographed a route, lightshow and music together with Roboat engineers, resulting in two performances for the 'Wiekend van de Wetering', the 'Weekend of Science' on 6/7 October 2023.

The performance plays with synchronicity, inviting the viewer to experience a meeting of autonomous technology and human behaviour through choreography, sculpture, light and music. 
Bringing together the human anatomical heart as a mechanical form, lit up in colours that sync to music—the autonomous vessel appears to dance — almost as much as onlookers did.
