Benjamin Tilbrook UX / UI Designer

ABOUT

When I first started working at AIM Smarter, the company was becoming very successful and they wanted to put their profits into the business and hire more workers to make sure they stay on top in their field. The development team was expanded upon, with me and four others starting around the same time. During my interview, it was clear they wanted to push their main software platform in terms of regular updates and better UX.

There were two main concerns with the flagship application of AIM Smarter. It looked a few years out of date, and users were not entirely happy with various parts of the system and complained about illogical button placements and key areas of the site being difficult to navigate to.

I was part of the Development Team and was overseeing the UX and UI of the system. My first role was to understand the audience and learn more about what our customers are looking for and where their pain points lie with the current system they were using. My next task was to conceptualise various aspects of the system with low and high fidelity mock-ups and discuss these with colleagues and key customers until we reached a positive outcome. After concepts were finalised, my role would be to oversee development of the system and offer support on implementing the designs or working to address any issues missed during the research / planning stages.

Using the first section of the system we overhauled as an example of the success of the project, once the Dashboard was complete and pushed out for beta testing, 93% of our users across all markets preferred the new Dashboard design and switched over in beta stages. The whole of the system is still in the process of being renovated with the new UX / UI principals, but so far, looking at both qualitative and quantitative data, feedback has been predominantly positive.
