ABOUT

Another old project but still one of my favourites.

Often the little projects, with little budget require the most thought resulting in the most creative end results.

This was an installation piece we did for Boudicca for their window at Matches and their travelling installation and couture show.

The brief was to make the architectural installation dress come to life.

We have adopted an in-camera stop frame animation process. We built the full dress structure and shot a pass, a tracking move 300 degree around the mannequin. This move was recorded and saved using a small motion control rig, (The RevolveR). We then gradually cut the dress back to the mannequin. After each cut, we filmed another pass, exactly the same as the first with the motion control rig. We did this again and again, (in total 60 passes) until finally the mannequin was bare. To create the dress appearing on the mannequin as the camera gradually tracked round, was simply a question of reversing all the footage and then dissolving between each preceding pass.

The post production was very simply as the effect was created in-camera.
