My recently discovered interest in fellwalking in the Lake District caused me to wonder how Alfred Wainwright's Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells could be presented in an interactive format that would allow someone to select a peak and track a route on the go. As beautiful as the books are they are somewhat impractical to carry on a walk, and by doing so you run the risk of damaging them. This led me to create a concept for a mobile app that contains all of the information about the Wainwright peaks from the Pictorial Guides.

The images on the right show the user flow from the introduction, to selecting an area of the lake district, to selecting a peak and a route associated with that peak. The user is then given a detailed OS map which shows the chosen route as well as a range of waypoints that help them stay on course while walking. You can also save any routes that you like for later, or save a list of the peaks that you have climbed. The handmade look and feel that distinguishes Alfred Wainwright's Pictorial Guides is maintained in throughout the app design.
